A Guide to finding a long lasting fragrance and applying it correctly
How do I find a long lasting fragrance? How can I ensure that it stays with me all day long ? This is a frequent question people ask when they buy perfumes, as ‘beast mode’ perfumes have been trending all over the world on Social Media.
Does stronger concentration always mean it is longer lasting?
What many people fail to recognise is that having a stronger perfume does not always equate to a better perfume or a long lasting perfume.
The duration of the fragrance will entirely depend on the notes of the composition and how you apply it. Some perfume notes will not perform differently, even if they are more concentrated. See our tips and tricks for making your fragrance last longer below.

Buy the right strength of fragrance if you want it to last longer
For long lasting perfume freshness buy fragrance which is labelled as Eau de Parfum or Parfum. At the House of Scent of Dunes all our fragrances are long lasting, as they contain a high percentage of of quality fragrance oil. Mostly they are comparable to fragrances which call themselves Parfum. Eau de Cologne, Eau Fraiche, Eau de Toilette and After Shave all have less concentration of perfume than Eau de Parfum and Parfum.
Target your pulse points for a long lasting effect
Spray onto your neck, heart or even behind your ears if you want your perfume to last longer. These areas are relatively warmer because the skin is thinner in these areas, thus the perfume radiates upwards if you spray here.
Do not do this!
It is not advisable to rub your wrists together, as the friction damages the perfume molecules.
Please do not spray perfume directly onto your hair
Spray onto your hairbrush, not directly onto your hair. Or spray onto a towel and then wrap your hair in the towel to achieve a long lasting perfume effect. It is preferable to use a special hair perfume mist, as this does not contain alcohol which can dry out your hair follicles.
Spray fragrance onto your clothes
Spray a little of the fragrance onto your clothes, as fabrics hold onto perfume notes and make fragrance last longer.

Keep your skin moisturised
Moisturise your skin before applying perfume, as hydrated skin will hold onto the perfume molecules better than dry skin. If you want great long lasting fragrance results, apply your perfume straight after the shower and then apply a moisturising cream to your skin. Allow your skin to dry before getting dressed to avoid rubbing the perfume off with your clothes.
Pay attention to fragrance notes
Pay attention to the notes in your fragrance, as some molecules last longer than others. Normally there are a combination of ingredients in any perfume to add complexity and depth. These additional ingredients often also allow the perfume to last longer. Each ingredient warms up on the skin and evaporates at a different rate. This is why woody, ambery, musky and vanilla notes linger on the skin when the citrus notes have already disappeared. Perfumes with natural oud notes also generally achieve a longer lasting perfume effect. This is why Arab bedouins traditionally love natural oud, as they used to spend weeks in the desert without access to bathrooms.
